Nansen's Arctic Expedition
The Nansen's Arctic Expedition took place from 1893 to 1896, led by the Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen. The goal was to explore the Arctic Ocean and gather scientific data while attempting to reach the North Pole. Nansen's ship, the Fram, was specially designed to withstand the ice, allowing it to drift with the pack ice rather than being crushed.
During the expedition, Nansen and his crew conducted various scientific observations, including studies of ocean currents and ice conditions. In 1895, Nansen and his companion, Hjalmar Johansen, made a daring journey towards the North Pole, reaching a record latitude of 86°14′N before turning back.
