Nandu
Nandu, also known as the greater rhea, is a large flightless bird native to South America. It belongs to the family Rheidae and is known for its long legs and neck, which help it run swiftly across open grasslands. Nandus can reach heights of up to 5.5 feet and weigh between 55 to 100 pounds. They are herbivorous, primarily feeding on grasses, seeds, and fruits.
These birds are social creatures, often found in groups, and are known for their distinctive gray-brown plumage. Nandus are also notable for their unique reproductive behavior, where males incubate the eggs and care for the chicks after hatching. Their habitat includes savannas, scrublands, and wetlands, making them an important part of the ecosystem.
