greater rhea
The greater rhea is a large flightless bird native to South America, primarily found in countries like Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay. It can reach heights of up to 5.5 feet and weigh between 55 to 110 pounds. With long legs and a long neck, the greater rhea resembles an ostrich but is smaller in size. They inhabit open grasslands and savannas, where they forage for seeds, fruits, and insects.
These birds are social creatures, often seen in groups that can number in the hundreds. Greater rheas are known for their unique mating system, where one male mates with multiple females. The male also takes on the responsibility of incubating the eggs and caring for the chicks after they hatch.
