NTM
NTM, or Non-Tuberculous Mycobacteria, refers to a group of bacteria that are commonly found in the environment, particularly in soil and water. Unlike Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which causes tuberculosis, NTM can lead to various infections, especially in individuals with weakened immune systems or underlying lung conditions.
These bacteria can cause respiratory diseases, skin infections, and other health issues. Treatment often involves a combination of antibiotics, but it can be challenging due to the bacteria's resistance to many common medications. Awareness and understanding of NTM are essential for effective diagnosis and management.
