NGC_2460
NGC_2460 is a planetary nebula located in the constellation Canis Major. It was discovered by the astronomer John Herschel in 1834. This nebula is notable for its bright central star, which is a remnant of a dying star that has shed its outer layers.
The nebula is approximately 1,600 light-years away from Earth and spans about 0.5 light-years in diameter. Its distinct shape and vibrant colors are a result of the ionization of gases, primarily hydrogen and helium, which glow under ultraviolet light emitted by the central star.
