NGC 6705
NGC 6705, also known as the Wild Duck Cluster, is an open star cluster located in the constellation Aquila. It is approximately 1,800 light-years away from Earth and contains around 100 stars, with its brightest members being blue supergiants. The cluster is estimated to be about 100 million years old.
Discovered by William Herschel in 1783, NGC 6705 is notable for its distinctive shape, which resembles a flying duck, hence its nickname. The cluster is best observed with binoculars or small telescopes, making it a popular target for amateur astronomers interested in studying star formation and stellar evolution.
