NGC 5019
NGC 5019 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation Virgo. It is approximately 100 million light-years away from Earth and is part of the Virgo Cluster, a group of galaxies that are gravitationally bound together.
Discovered by the astronomer William Herschel in 1784, NGC 5019 has a diameter of about 100,000 light-years. Its structure features a prominent bar-shaped region of stars, which is characteristic of barred spiral galaxies. Observations of NGC 5019 contribute to our understanding of galaxy formation and evolution.
