NGC 288
NGC 288 is a globular cluster located in the constellation Phoenix. It is approximately 30,000 light-years away from Earth and is one of the many clusters that orbit the Milky Way galaxy. NGC 288 contains several hundred thousand stars, primarily older, low-mass stars, and is estimated to be around 13 billion years old.
Discovered by James Dunlop in 1826, NGC 288 is notable for its relatively low metallicity, indicating that it formed early in the universe's history. The cluster has a diameter of about 100 light-years and is classified as a type II globular cluster, which means it has a more concentrated core compared to other types.
