NGC 221
NGC 221, also known as M32, is a dwarf elliptical galaxy located in the Andromeda Galaxy group. It is situated approximately 2.65 million light-years from Earth and is one of the closest galaxies to our own. NGC 221 is notable for its compact size and bright core, making it an interesting object for astronomers.
Discovered by John Herschel in 1827, NGC 221 has a diameter of about 8,000 light-years. It contains a population of older stars and lacks significant amounts of gas and dust, which are essential for new star formation. This galaxy is often studied to understand the evolution of smaller galaxies in the universe.
