NGC 1846
NGC 1846 is a bright open cluster located in the constellation Doradus. It was discovered by the astronomer John Herschel in 1836 and is situated approximately 60,000 light-years away from Earth. The cluster contains several hundred stars, many of which are young and hot, contributing to its brightness.
The cluster is notable for its age, estimated to be around 2 billion years, making it relatively old compared to other open clusters. NGC 1846 is also part of the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, which provides a rich environment for studying stellar evolution.
