NGC 1006
NGC 1006 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation Phoenix. It is approximately 60 million light-years away from Earth and is part of the Hubble Space Telescope survey. The galaxy has a bright central bar structure, which is characteristic of barred spiral galaxies.
Discovered by the astronomer John Herschel in 1834, NGC 1006 is notable for its well-defined spiral arms and active star formation regions. Its classification as a spiral galaxy indicates that it has a flat, rotating disk containing stars, gas, and dust, along with a central concentration of stars known as a bulge.
