NGC
NGC, or the New General Catalogue, is a comprehensive catalog of deep-sky objects, including galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters. Compiled by John Louis Emil Dreyer in 1888, it contains over 7,800 entries, providing astronomers with a standardized reference for identifying celestial objects.
The NGC is widely used by both amateur and professional astronomers. Each entry is assigned a unique number, making it easier to locate and study specific objects in the night sky. The catalog has been expanded and updated over the years, leading to the creation of additional catalogs like the Index Catalogue (IC) to include more discoveries.
