John Louis Emil Dreyer
John Louis Emil Dreyer was a Danish astronomer born on February 13, 1852, in Copenhagen. He is best known for his work on star catalogs and for compiling the New General Catalogue (NGC), which lists thousands of celestial objects. Dreyer's contributions significantly advanced the field of astronomy, making it easier for astronomers to locate and study various stars and galaxies.
In addition to the NGC, Dreyer also published the Index Catalogues, which expanded on his earlier work. He served as the director of the Dunsink Observatory in Ireland and later became a prominent figure in the astronomical community, influencing future generations of astronomers until his death on September 14, 1926.
