Myrica Gale
Myrica gale, commonly known as sweet gale or bog myrtle, is a deciduous shrub native to wetlands in North America and Europe. It typically grows between 1 to 2 meters tall and features aromatic, lance-shaped leaves. The plant produces small, yellowish-green flowers in the spring, which develop into small, cone-like fruits.
Sweet gale thrives in moist, acidic soils and is often found in bogs, marshes, and along riverbanks. It has been traditionally used for its medicinal properties and as a natural insect repellent. Additionally, Myrica gale is valued in gardening for its ability to improve soil quality and attract wildlife.
