Mykhailo Verbytsky
Mykhailo Verbytsky was a prominent Ukrainian composer and choral conductor, born on March 4, 1815, in the village of Zashkiv, Ukraine. He is best known for his contributions to Ukrainian music, particularly for composing the music of the national anthem, Shche ne vmerla Ukraina. Verbytsky played a significant role in the development of Ukrainian choral music during the 19th century.
In addition to his work as a composer, Verbytsky was also a priest in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. He founded the first Ukrainian choir in Lviv and was instrumental in promoting Ukrainian folk music. His legacy continues to influence Ukrainian culture and music today.
