Mykola Lysenko
Mykola Lysenko was a prominent Ukrainian composer, pianist, and conductor, born on March 22, 1842, in the village of Hryhoriivka. He is often regarded as the father of Ukrainian classical music and played a significant role in the development of a national musical identity. Lysenko's works include operas, choral music, and piano compositions, many of which draw inspiration from Ukrainian folk melodies.
Lysenko studied at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and later became involved in the Ukrainian cultural revival of the late 19th century. He was also an advocate for Ukrainian language and culture, contributing to the establishment of music education in Ukraine. Lysenko passed away on November 6, 1912, leaving a lasting legacy in Ukrainian music.
