Myeongnyang
The Battle of Myeongnyang took place on October 26, 1597, during the Imjin War, a conflict between Korea and Japan. This naval battle is notable for the strategic genius of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, who commanded a small fleet of 13 ships against a much larger Japanese force of around 300 vessels. Despite being heavily outnumbered, Yi's tactics and knowledge of the local waters led to a decisive victory for the Korean forces.
The battle is remembered for its demonstration of courage and innovation in naval warfare. Admiral Yi Sun-sin's use of the turtle ship, an early ironclad warship, played a crucial role in the battle's outcome. The victory at Myeongnyang significantly boosted Korean morale and contributed to the eventual repulsion of Japanese forces from the Korean Peninsula.
