Muktad
Muktad is a significant period in the Zoroastrian calendar, lasting for five days, typically starting on the 13th day of the month of Mordad. During this time, Zoroastrians honor the souls of their deceased loved ones, believing that the spirits of the dead return to the earthly realm. Families perform rituals, offer prayers, and make offerings to ensure the peace and comfort of these souls.
The observance of Muktad includes visiting the graves of the departed, where families may place flowers and light candles. It is a time for reflection, remembrance, and connection with ancestors, emphasizing the importance of family and community in Zoroastrian beliefs.
