Movement for the Liberation of Congo
The Movement for the Liberation of Congo (MLC) is a political and military group that emerged in the late 1990s during the Second Congo War. Founded by Jean-Pierre Bemba, the MLC aimed to overthrow the government of Laurent-Désiré Kabila and establish a new regime in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The group received support from neighboring countries, including Uganda.
The MLC was involved in various conflicts and political negotiations throughout the war, eventually becoming a significant player in the peace process. In 2003, the MLC participated in a transitional government, marking a shift from armed conflict to political engagement in the Congo.
