Mount Zirkel Wilderness
The Mount Zirkel Wilderness is a protected area located in the Routt National Forest in northwestern Colorado. Covering approximately 160,000 acres, it features diverse landscapes, including rugged mountains, alpine lakes, and dense forests. The wilderness is named after Mount Zirkel, the highest peak in the area, which rises to an elevation of 12,180 feet.
Established in 1964, the Mount Zirkel Wilderness is part of the larger National Wilderness Preservation System. It offers numerous recreational opportunities, such as hiking, camping, and fishing.
