Mount Soufrière
Mount Soufrière is an active volcano located on the island of Saint Vincent in the Caribbean. It is the highest peak in the country, reaching an elevation of 1,234 meters (4,049 feet). The volcano has erupted several times throughout history, with significant eruptions occurring in 1718, 1812, and 1979, impacting local communities and the environment.
The most recent eruption took place in April 2021, leading to the evacuation of thousands of residents. Mount Soufrière is closely monitored by the Seismic Research Centre at the University of the West Indies to ensure the safety of the surrounding population and to study its volcanic activity.
