Mount Karthala
Mount Karthala is an active volcano located on the island of Grande Comore in the Comoros archipelago. It stands at approximately 2,361 meters (7,747 feet) above sea level, making it the highest point in the region. The volcano has a large caldera, which is about 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) wide, and has erupted several times in recorded history.
The most recent significant eruption occurred in 2005, which prompted evacuations and monitoring of the area.
