Moundville Archaeological Site
The Moundville Archaeological Site is a significant Native American archaeological site located in Alabama, near the Black Warrior River. It was a major center of the Mississippian culture from around 1000 to 1450 CE, featuring large earthen mounds used for ceremonial and political purposes. The site includes 29 mounds, with the largest being over 60 feet tall.
Moundville was home to a thriving community, with evidence of complex social structures and trade networks. Artifacts such as pottery, tools, and shell beads have been discovered, providing insight into the daily lives and practices of its inhabitants. Today, it is preserved as a historical site and museum.
