Chaco Canyon is a significant archaeological site located in northwestern New Mexico, known for its ancient Puebloan culture. It features impressive stone structures, including multi-story buildings and ceremonial kivas, built between AD 900 and 1150. The site served as a major center for trade, politics, and religion among the Ancestral Puebloans.
The canyon is part of the Chaco Culture National Historical Park, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
