Mound-Building Birds
Mound-building birds are a unique group of avian species known for their distinctive nesting behavior. These birds, such as the Malleefowl and Australian Brush-turkey, construct large mounds of soil, leaves, and other organic materials to incubate their eggs. The heat generated by the decomposition of the organic matter helps maintain a stable temperature for the developing eggs.
These birds are primarily found in Australia and surrounding regions. Unlike many other bird species, mound-building birds do not sit on their eggs to incubate them. Instead, they rely on the natural heat of the mound, showcasing an interesting adaptation to their environment.
