Motivational Conflict
Motivational conflict occurs when an individual faces competing desires or goals, leading to uncertainty and stress. This situation can arise in various contexts, such as choosing between two job offers or deciding whether to pursue a hobby or study for an exam. The conflict can be categorized into three types: approach-approach, avoidance-avoidance, and approach-avoidance.
In an approach-approach conflict, a person must choose between two appealing options, while avoidance-avoidance involves selecting between two undesirable choices. Approach-avoidance conflict occurs when a single option has both positive and negative aspects, such as the desire to eat a delicious dessert while also wanting to maintain a healthy diet.
