Monument to the Battle of the Somme
The Monument to the Battle of the Somme is a memorial located in Thiepval, France. It commemorates the soldiers who fought and died during the Battle of the Somme in World War I, which took place from July to November 1916. The battle was one of the largest and bloodiest of the war, resulting in over a million casualties.
Designed by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, the monument features a large arch and is inscribed with the names of more than 72,000 missing British and South African soldiers.
