Mononobe clan
The Mononobe clan was a prominent family in ancient Japan, particularly during the late 5th and early 6th centuries. They were known for their military prowess and played a significant role in the power struggles of the time, especially against the Soga clan, who were advocates of Buddhism. The Mononobe clan supported the traditional Shinto beliefs and sought to maintain the old ways.
The clan's most notable figure was Mononobe no Moriya, who led forces against the Soga during the pivotal conflict over the introduction of Buddhism into Japan. This rivalry ultimately contributed to the decline of the Mononobe clan's influence as Buddhism gained acceptance and the Soga clan rose to power.
