Mongol Invasion of Hungary
The Mongol Invasion of Hungary occurred in 1241-1242 during the Mongol Empire's expansion under Genghis Khan's successors. The invasion was led by Batu Khan, a grandson of Genghis Khan, and aimed to conquer Europe. The Mongols swiftly defeated the Hungarian army at the Battle of Mohi, using superior tactics and mobility.
Following their victory, the Mongols ravaged much of Hungary, causing widespread destruction and loss of life. However, the invasion was short-lived, as the Mongols withdrew in 1242, likely due to the death of Ögedei Khan, the Great Khan, which required their leaders to return to Mongolia for succession matters.
