Moken people
The Moken people, also known as "sea gypsies," are a nomadic ethnic group primarily found in the coastal regions of the Andaman Sea, particularly around Thailand and Burma. They traditionally rely on fishing and gathering from the sea for their livelihood, living in small, mobile communities on boats or near the shore. Their unique lifestyle is closely tied to the ocean, and they possess extensive knowledge of marine ecosystems.
Moken culture is rich in oral traditions, music, and storytelling, reflecting their deep connection to the sea. They are known for their exceptional swimming abilities and can see underwater better than many other people. Despite facing challenges from modernization and environmental changes, the Moken continue to maintain their cultural identity and practices.
