Mogao Grottoes
The Mogao Grottoes, also known as the Caves of the Thousand Buddhas, are a series of Buddhist cave temples located near Dunhuang in Gansu Province, China. These caves were carved into the cliffs over a period of a thousand years, from the 4th to the 14th century, and contain a vast collection of Buddhist art and manuscripts.
The site features over 700 caves, with around 492 containing murals and sculptures. The Mogao Grottoes are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcasing the rich history of Buddhism and the cultural exchanges along the ancient Silk Road.
