Modoc War
The Modoc War was a conflict that took place between 1872 and 1873 in northern California and southern Oregon. It involved the Modoc people, who resisted relocation to a reservation, and the United States Army. The war began when a group of Modoc, led by their chief Kintpuash, also known as Captain Jack, refused to leave their ancestral lands.
The conflict escalated into a series of battles, with the Modoc using their knowledge of the rugged terrain to their advantage. After several months of fighting, the U.S. Army eventually captured Captain Jack and his followers, leading to the end of the war and the forced removal of the Modoc to a reservation.
