Models of Disability
Models of disability are frameworks that help us understand how society views and interacts with individuals who have disabilities. The two primary models are the Medical Model and the Social Model. The Medical Model focuses on the individual's impairment as the problem, emphasizing diagnosis and treatment. It often views disability as a deficiency that needs to be fixed.
In contrast, the Social Model argues that disability arises from societal barriers and attitudes rather than the individual's condition. This model promotes the idea that society should adapt to accommodate all individuals, highlighting the importance of accessibility and inclusion in various aspects of life.
