Miss Mitchell's Comet
Miss Mitchell's Comet is a periodic comet that was discovered by American astronomer Maria Mitchell in 1847. It is officially designated as C/1847 F1 and is notable for being one of the first comets observed and recorded by a woman.
The comet has an orbital period of approximately 75 years, meaning it returns to the inner solar system roughly every three-quarters of a century. Its last perihelion, or closest approach to the Sun, occurred in 1986, and it is expected to return again around 2061.
