Miriam Schapiro
Miriam Schapiro (1923-2015) was an influential American artist known for her contributions to the feminist art movement. She was a pioneer in the use of fabric and textiles in fine art, often incorporating sewing and quilting techniques into her work. Schapiro's art challenged traditional notions of gender and representation, making her a key figure in the exploration of women's roles in art.
In addition to her artwork, Schapiro was an educator and co-founder of the Womanhouse project, which provided a space for women artists to create and exhibit their work. Her legacy continues to inspire new generations of artists, particularly those focused on feminist themes and practices.
