The Millerite movement was a religious movement in the United States during the early 19th century, primarily led by William Miller. Miller, a Baptist preacher, predicted that the second coming of Jesus Christ would occur on October 22, 1844. This prediction attracted a large following, as many people were eager for spiritual renewal and the promise of salvation.
When the anticipated date passed without the expected event, the movement faced significant disappointment, often referred to as the "Great Disappointment." Despite this setback, the Seventh-day Adventist Church emerged from the Millerite movement, continuing to promote beliefs about the second coming and the importance of observing the Sabbath.
