Military of Yugoslavia
The Military of Yugoslavia was the armed forces of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which existed from 1945 until its dissolution in the early 1990s. It consisted of the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) and various paramilitary units, with a focus on defending the country's socialist system and territorial integrity. The military was known for its non-alignment during the Cold War, maintaining a position independent of both NATO and the Warsaw Pact.
After the breakup of Yugoslavia, the military was divided among the newly independent states, including Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The JNA played a significant role in the conflicts that arose during the dissolution, leading to a complex legacy and various international controversies regarding its actions during the Yugoslav Wars.
