Middle Meningeal Artery
The Middle Meningeal Artery is a vital blood vessel that supplies the meninges, the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. It branches off from the maxillary artery, which is a major artery in the face and jaw. This artery enters the skull through the foramen spinosum and runs along the inner surface of the skull.
Injury to the middle meningeal artery can lead to a serious condition known as an epidural hematoma, where blood accumulates between the skull and the outer layer of the meninges. This can occur due to head trauma and may require urgent medical intervention to prevent complications.
