Mid-Day Meal Scheme
The Mid-Day Meal Scheme is a government initiative in India aimed at improving the nutritional status of school children. Launched in 1995, it provides free, cooked meals to students in primary and upper primary schools. The scheme encourages school attendance and enhances learning by ensuring that children receive at least one nutritious meal each day.
The program is implemented by the Ministry of Education and involves local communities in its execution. It not only addresses hunger but also promotes social equity by bringing children from different backgrounds together during meal times. The scheme has significantly contributed to reducing malnutrition among school-going children.
