Metacomet
Metacomet, also known as King Philip, was a leader of the Wampanoag tribe in the 17th century. He is best known for his role in King Philip's War, a conflict between Native American tribes and English settlers in New England from 1675 to 1676. Metacomet sought to resist the encroachment of settlers on Native lands and to unite various tribes against them.
The war was one of the deadliest conflicts in American history, resulting in significant loss of life and land for both sides. Metacomet's efforts ultimately failed, and he was killed in 1676, leading to the decline of Native American power in the region. His legacy remains a symbol of resistance against colonial expansion.
