King Philip
King Philip, also known as Metacom, was a Native American leader of the Wampanoag tribe in the 17th century. He is best known for leading King Philip's War against English settlers in New England from 1675 to 1676. This conflict arose from tensions over land, resources, and the encroachment of settlers on Native American territories.
The war was one of the deadliest conflicts in American history, resulting in significant casualties on both sides. King Philip's efforts aimed to unite various tribes against the settlers, but ultimately, the war led to his defeat and the further decline of Native American power in the region.
