Messier 7
Messier 7, also known as the Ptolemy Cluster, is an open star cluster located in the constellation Scorpius. It is one of the brightest clusters visible to the naked eye and contains around 100 stars. The cluster is approximately 800 light-years away from Earth and spans about 25 light-years in diameter.
Discovered by the ancient astronomer Ptolemy in the 2nd century, Messier 7 was later cataloged by Charles Messier in 1764. The cluster is notable for its rich concentration of stars, making it a popular target for amateur astronomers and a fascinating object for study in stellar formation and evolution.
