Mesenteric Ischemia
Mesenteric Ischemia is a condition that occurs when blood flow to the intestines is reduced, leading to insufficient oxygen and nutrients for the intestinal tissues. This can happen due to narrowed or blocked blood vessels, often caused by atherosclerosis or blood clots. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, especially after eating, and can progress to more severe complications if not treated.
There are two main types of mesenteric ischemia: acute mesenteric ischemia, which develops suddenly and is a medical emergency, and chronic mesenteric ischemia, which occurs gradually and may cause recurring abdominal pain. Diagnosis typically involves imaging tests, and treatment may include medications, surgery, or lifestyle changes.
