Melanism
Melanism is a genetic condition characterized by an increased amount of dark pigmentation in the skin, fur, or feathers of an organism. This condition can occur in various species, including jaguars, foxes, and birds. Melanistic individuals often have a black or very dark appearance, which can provide advantages such as better camouflage in certain environments.
The opposite of melanism is albinism, where organisms lack pigment altogether. Melanism can be beneficial for survival, as darker colors may help animals absorb more heat or blend into their surroundings, making them less visible to predators or prey.
