Leucism
Leucism is a genetic condition that results in reduced pigmentation in an animal's skin, fur, or feathers. Unlike albinism, which completely lacks melanin, leucistic animals have some pigment, leading to lighter colors but not pure white. This condition can occur in various species, including mammals, birds, and reptiles.
Leucism can affect an animal's appearance, making it more noticeable in the wild. While leucistic animals may have a unique look, they can face challenges, such as increased visibility to predators and difficulties in finding mates. Conservation efforts often consider these factors when studying affected populations.
