Meitnerium
Meitnerium is a synthetic element with the chemical symbol Mt and atomic number 109. It was first discovered in 1982 by a team of scientists at the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research in Germany. Named after physicist Lise Meitner, it is part of the transition metals group and is highly radioactive.
Due to its short half-life, which is less than a second, Meitnerium does not occur naturally and can only be produced in particle accelerators. Its properties are not well-studied, but it is expected to share similarities with other elements in the d-block of the periodic table.
