Meissner's Corpuscles
Meissner's Corpuscles are specialized sensory receptors located in the skin, particularly in areas sensitive to light touch, such as the fingertips and palms. They are responsible for detecting changes in texture and vibrations at low frequencies. These receptors are found just beneath the skin's surface and are part of the somatosensory system.
These corpuscles are oval-shaped and consist of a stack of flattened cells surrounded by a capsule. When the skin is touched, the deformation of the corpuscles sends signals to the nervous system, allowing the brain to interpret the sensation. This helps individuals respond to their environment effectively.
