Meigs syndrome
Meigs syndrome is a medical condition characterized by the presence of an ovarian tumor, typically a benign ovarian cyst, along with fluid accumulation in the abdominal cavity, known as ascites, and fluid around the lungs, called pleural effusion. This syndrome is most commonly associated with ovarian cancer, but it can also occur with benign tumors.
The symptoms of Meigs syndrome may include abdominal swelling, shortness of breath, and discomfort in the lower abdomen. Diagnosis often involves imaging studies, such as ultrasound or CT scans, to identify the ovarian mass and assess fluid levels. Treatment usually requires surgical intervention to remove the tumor and manage the fluid accumulation.
