Medicare Shared Savings Program
The Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) is a program designed to encourage healthcare providers to work together to improve patient care while reducing costs. It allows groups of doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers, known as Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), to share in the savings they achieve for the Medicare program by delivering high-quality care.
Under the MSSP, ACOs are rewarded for meeting specific quality benchmarks and reducing unnecessary spending. If they successfully lower costs while maintaining or improving the quality of care, they can share in the savings generated, benefiting both the providers and the Medicare system.
