Meconopsis
Meconopsis is a genus of flowering plants in the family Papaveraceae, commonly known as the blue poppies. These plants are native to the mountainous regions of Asia, particularly the Himalayas. They are known for their striking blue flowers, which bloom in late spring to early summer. Meconopsis species thrive in cool, moist environments and are often found in alpine meadows and forest clearings.
There are about 40 species of Meconopsis, with Meconopsis betonicifolia being one of the most popular among gardeners. These plants prefer well-drained soil and partial shade, making them suitable for rock gardens and shaded borders. Due to their unique beauty, Meconopsis has gained popularity in horticulture, although they can be challenging to cultivate outside their native habitats.
